Wynyard and the towns and farmland around it sit under a single council, Waratah-Wynyard Council, which covers Wynyard, Somerset, Boat Harbour, Sisters Beach, Table Cape, Flowerdale and the rural areas between. A single council keeps the approvals picture simpler here than in some regions, but the same basic rule applies.

As a general guide, a shed of 36 square metres or under is often exempt from needing a building permit, while anything larger will usually need building approval, and depending on the zone it may need planning approval as well. One thing to know about the boundaries: our free delivery covers most of the state, but the pocket to the far south-west, south of Smithton and Waratah and down toward Strahan and the Central Highlands, sits outside the free-delivery area. The Waratah-Wynyard municipality itself stretches a long way south toward Waratah, so if your block is well inland toward that end, it is worth confirming delivery with us first.
